  HISTORY

HELP was incorporated in 1985 by Fort Meade's ministerial association to centralize basic needs (food, rent, mortgage, utility, clothing) assistance to the people in Fort Meade. The roots of HELP go back even further, at least to Christmas assistance in the 1950's.

In 1987, HELP became a United Way of Central Florida community partner. Local support by individuals and churches are also essential in order to empower local people.

Since then, HELP has provided basic needs assistance, preventing hunger and homelessness in the Fort Meade area every work day.

Today, HELP has expanded its programs from a single focus on basic needs to a holistic approach to addressing poverty. Job services, adult literacy, and adult education help families get ahead.

Early literacy services prepare children to enter school ready to succeed, breaking the cycle of poverty.
